Performance Drawing, Sweeney Art Gallery, University
of Riverside, Saturday, October 13, 2007. My goal is to combine
drawing and performance into a single event.
The Schizophrenic Drawing Manifesto
“Have you ever heard of a multiple
personality?”
The Three Faces of Eve (1957)
I approach drawing from the position of a person
who has multiple personalities and each one is simultaneously
a sketch artist.
Sometimes I am Fidel Castro looking for higher ground.
Sometimes I am Andy Warhol and begin to work the crowd.
Sometimes I am a three-headed human enigma buried beneath
a museum of colonial trash.
Sometimes I am a sixteen-foot muffler man begging for rice.
Existence-time is Keanu Reeves' invisible sacred matrix.
A life drawing classroom exists in its cascading numbers.
One moment it freezes into icy stillness, the next moment
it melts back into warm movement.
To find the source of wide-open creativity, I pass through
Madonna, the narrow gate that leads to everything.
To overcome the systematic resistance of an audience, Cantinflas,
as I fill the space with trance-like dubdahs.
